Alternative PHP Cache, or APC, is a module for Apache servers that is used to cache the output code of script applications. It is very effective for scripts with large source code and could boost such a site as much as three times. PHP websites are dynamic and any time a visitor accesses a web page, the script hooks up to a database to get some content, and then the code is parsed and compiled before it is shown to the website visitor. In case the output code does not change however, which is the case with sites which show the exact same content at all times, these actions result in needless reading and writing. What APC does is that it caches the previously compiled program code and delivers it each time visitors browse a site, so the database doesn't need to be accessed and the program code doesn't need to be parsed and compiled repeatedly, that in turn decreases the site loading time. The module could be really useful for informational websites, blogs, portfolios, etcetera.
